David Blazquez

Human Furniture

Images from ELFOTOMATA.COM
From a exhibition at EL Fotomato in Sevilla , Spain. The photographer David Blazquez has used nudes models to recreate everyday furniture/objects. The use of nude models may be used to startle/shock the viewer . Yet the subtle selection of black and white image takes the edge of the nudity. I like the way in which he has created this series of images as the human form replaces a product that is still with no movement that is used for a purpose, wheres the use of a living being contrasts to this.

Simplicity and beautiful is what i think of these images taken by Nick Knight for Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga.
The garments modelled on a illuminated mannequin highlight the detail workmanship that has created this garments. The use of using light under the garments shows the garments in a new light more like an art form due to the fact they look so historical in design. I love the way the light highlights the detail of its construction , showing the seams and formation of its structure.
A simplistic idea that comes to life through the opacity of the garment reflecting the sheerness and delicate feeling from the garment.

Jun Takahashi

Jun Takahashi curated an edition of “A Magazine”, he made these lovely dolls for it

Even though this dolls are peculiar to look at i think this is a great lil idea instead of using model the use of dolls or mannequins . i really like the way in which the light beams out from the eyes.

A regular of combining technology and fashion

wired

Whilst our group was in the library we were looking through magazine, Terri came across this
editorial from Collezioni Magazine S/S 10
Photographer Christian Conti
Styled by Mark Holmes
These images made us think about different areas we could approach the brief.
The wire relates to technology which is an areas we are thinking about. I like these series of images the way in which the wire plays a role of clothing and as a mask.
Also this makes thought for using wire a a restraint. Using lights as the restraint whether it be rope lights , fairy light etc.

Human VS Mannequin

The three images above are ones that i tried with Human legs, i like the way in which i could direct the position of legs to what i want and have a variety of ways

Here are test images i did using mannequin legs , i like the oddness to these , the way they position which is stiff looking.

Guy Bourdin

All images are from guybourdin.org
I decide to look at Bourdin for inspiration for my still life shoot as he use allot of legs within his images . I have selected a few images in which i like the composition and colours.

The images show a wide variety in which was legs can be displayed if they are human , but as i am using mannequins which cannot be moved positions it has a gave a idea to experiment with real legs and compare them to mannequins.

For inspiration I have looked at a variety of edit orals that represent still life.
From V Magazine

I found this in the archive's on V magazine. Personally i like these images the mix of black and white with bright background and below the coloured legs with odd shoes and tights on a simple white background. I like the use of the human legs but for it to be truly still life i am going to use mannequin legs to add a edgy look.

Below are images from French photographer Isabelle Bonjean.

Alot of her work is very vivid in colour.

The image above and below are still life and have use of a mannequin, i like the shadows within them and the simplicity of colours and arrangement off accessories with the mannequins.

Sasa Antic is a set and prop designer from Sweden. Her work is inspiring and extremely creative in its display. I love the way in which she uses colour in the image below and placement off product within a scene.

Still Life Project

At the minute we have been given a new brief which is to create a set of 3-4 still life(accessories) images that has been inspired by the current fashion shows for Autumn /Winter 2010 not forgetting a jigsaw has to be included within the images which is relevant . From looking at the current shows i have selected a trend that would inspire the photo shoot. At many of the shows there was a lot of colour and texture which appeared whether it be embroidery at Christopher Kane or embellishment at Manish Arora i found the collection inspiring and gave me the idea to use this techniques within my images. For a Jigsaw i decided to create my own which was a image i had taken of embroidery which is colourful and relates to theme. Instead of using the normal shape of jigsaw pieces i've cut it in to the shape of the embroidery so it doesn't really look like a jigsaw any more.

Accessories for the shoot, a main focus within the shows was tights and socks. Tights that have ruffles, print and solid colours. For my accessory's i am going to use tights which have been customised and shoes which are customised to and also normal shoes which haven't.
Rather than using a plain background i am going to add extra texture and colour by using Islamic prayer mats in two different colour, these will hope make the image more eclectic
