For inspiration I have looked at a variety of edit orals that represent still life.
From V Magazine

I found this in the archive's on V magazine. Personally i like these images the mix of black and white with bright background and below the coloured legs with odd shoes and tights on a simple white background. I like the use of the human legs but for it to be truly still life i am going to use mannequin legs to add a edgy look.

Images from Vmagazine.com
Below are images from French photographer Isabelle Bonjean.

Alot of her work is very vivid in colour.

The image above and below are still life and have use of a mannequin, i like the shadows within them and the simplicity of colours and arrangement off accessories with the mannequins.

Sasa Antic is a set and prop designer from Sweden. Her work is inspiring and extremely creative in its display. I love the way in which she uses colour in the image below and placement off product within a scene.

Still Life Project

At the minute we have been given a new brief which is to create a set of 3-4 still life(accessories) images that has been inspired by the current fashion shows for Autumn /Winter 2010 not forgetting a jigsaw has to be included within the images which is relevant . From looking at the current shows i have selected a trend that would inspire the photo shoot. At many of the shows there was a lot of colour and texture which appeared whether it be embroidery at Christopher Kane or embellishment at Manish Arora i found the collection inspiring and gave me the idea to use this techniques within my images. For a Jigsaw i decided to create my own which was a image i had taken of embroidery which is colourful and relates to theme. Instead of using the normal shape of jigsaw pieces i've cut it in to the shape of the embroidery so it doesn't really look like a jigsaw any more.

Accessories for the shoot, a main focus within the shows was tights and socks. Tights that have ruffles, print and solid colours. For my accessory's i am going to use tights which have been customised and shoes which are customised to and also normal shoes which haven't.
Rather than using a plain background i am going to add extra texture and colour by using Islamic prayer mats in two different colour, these will hope make the image more eclectic

This woman is just so fab and inspiring... totally out there

Jay Dubois- Light series

I found these images when flicking through websites there isn't much information available in Jay Dubois but he has a website which is very minimal and has a selection of different images the site is http://www.jaydubois.com/
all images below are from the site.
The work was exhibited at "10" exhibition in Denmark in 2006.

I selected these images as i like the way in which the light is photographed and appears the motion within the images above the use of two primary colours that stand out compared to the white ones. The lights create a pattern which is uneven and edgy which attracts me to using lights within in a image that are being moved quickly to create motion within the images.

The results of the imagery comes from experimentation using traditional darkroom processes

All images from ellenrogers.co.uk

I really like this style that this photographer has, the final images are very engaging. I love the way in which they are so natural with a asethic that seems worn to me. from the above images i find the composition ,symmetry, colours tone and finished images particular interesting.

Solve Sundsbo

Interference

The name is appropriate as the images do show interference , i saw these a while ago and thought that they have some relation in what we are looking at within this project... technology and electrical stuff.

The images above and below are from Numero 97 oct 2008. This was an editorial photographed by Solve Sundsbo and styled by Frank Benhamou

The images are uneven and show interruption to the models and garments, even tough this is distorting the images it doesn't detract from the fashion image . Personally i think this makes thee images more engaging and question what is going on.

Shadow again within this editorial named Spider woman in Numero 86

I think the shadow makes the image stronger as it is clearly highlights and accentuates the models pose and illusion of lying creating an images of 8 limbs as a spider has.

Above and Below Issey Miyake
Layer upon Layer- this pieces remind me of a load of old scarves in a mixture of colours and textures

Below images Manish Aroa

Below Charles Anastase

Bold and beautiful colours standout for Autumn / Winter 2010 .

Exciting and embellished at Manish Arora with florals ,embroidery in crystals and beads, gemotris patterns and the slight sci-fi/futuristc .Not forgetting the ankle socks that add
extra pop of colour.

Charles Anatase

I have always had a liking for some of Anatase collection especically his shoes in the last two season shoe and this one aswell- sky high platforms. I love the two strong colours that compliment one another. The attraction to this image is the headpiece and colloar - theyre just fab the raw edging and sublte pastle tones.

AuTuMn / WiNtEr 2010 Hussein Chayalan

Its all about the ruffles whether it be legwarmers neck piece or cardigan, knitted textures and splashes of colour which break up the boring under colours .

Shadows

After looking at a few images that contain the use of shadows i think the idea of us using and experimenting with light to produce shadow could be challenging but really effective. We would be in control of the shadow and could use it in many ways-
  1. To create shapes in which we could dress
  2. Be playful
  3. use different scale - large and small of shadows

Images from www.160grams.com Feb 2010, photography by Billy Kidd , Fashion Editor Rich Aybar

Whilst looking for inspiration i found this site. I have selected the above editorial for the styling which is futuristic = technology a route that we can go down whilst exploring variations of light etc.

I love the colourful backgrounds the infusion of different colours .

iT's A hAnD Thing !!!

Is this about fear?

Gotcha!

Master Hands by Russ and Reyn. images for google

New York based photographers who work within the fashion photography field and also art and film. I love these images images which have a combination of shadows and models. These intrigue me to think of what the composition of the image is actually about.... is it about power and control with the hand being so over sized which can seem intimidating or is it yet playful and fun like a puppet show. These actually remind me of the hand "Thing" from the Adams Family.

Solve Sundbso - ShAdOws-

I am particularly drawn to the images the way in which the shadows create a feel of clothing with a reference to animals the stripes a zebra, polka dots remind me of a dalamation or leopard. The makeup selection via lip colour pops out to the viewer. The images make me feel curious, with a element of mystery to the images.

iMAGES FROM nUMERO mAGZINE 2008

When I first thought of the lamp the idea of using shadows sprung to mind. The way in which a shadow can arouse suspicion and intrigue a viewer. Above are images by Solve Sundsbo for Numero magazine. Solve is a Norwegian fashion photographer here he had been playing with the shadows and light with use of overlays and filters.

Objet Trouve- Found Object

So new month new brief... Working in a group again with myself, Terri and Mark. We had to select a object which was unknown to us due to the fact it was wrapt up, this is to be the starting point for our new brief. As you can gather are object is a above. A OLD LAMP which is actually a railroad lamp.
This lamp gives us many routes to go down within creating our series of fashion images
  • The use lights whether it be in creating shadows, adding colour, evoking moods via light
  • looking at technology - how the use light has developed
  • Technology in fashion
  • the obvious- railways, a route which doesn't really appeal to me
